Semin O – Senior Associate, Antitrust

I work in the area of anti-trust law and merger control, so advise clients on proceedings before the German competition authority (the German Federal Cartel Office) and the EU (the European Commission) on all aspects of anti-trust related contract law and on compliance issues. I particularly like the fact that at DLA Piper I have found many colleagues with whom I not only enjoy working but whose company I also enjoy over a cold beer in the evening. This is an aspect that should not be underestimated when choosing an employer and was a (contributory) key factor for me personally.

Marc Fellner

Marc Fellner – Senior Associate, Tax

I am a tax lawyer in the Frankfurt office. My responsibilities consist mainly of finding effective and client-focused solutions to all kinds of tax issues, either as part of major transactions, tax-driven structural consultations, or legal disputes with the tax authorities. What I like best is that DLA Piper involves young professionals fully in client work. As a result, one can become the contact for a number of clients after a very short time, thereby gaining the opportunity to assume responsibility early on.

The key factor was the great atmosphere in the team, which struck me immediately during my job interview and since then is continually being affirmed on a daily basis. But, compared to other major law firms, the unusually varied work in the Employment Law Practice Group, with an emphasis on industrial constitution law, also appealed to me from the outset. Moreover it soon became clear that I would have a lot of client contact from the very first day. No-one has to work in the “back office” here. I have been working in the corporate and M&A group of DLA Piper since 2011. The main criteria for me, when choosing the firm, were to have an international, responsible and challenging job, all of which DLA Piper offers its associates more than any other (major) law firm. DLA Piper's unique international network enables the lawyers to work with clients and colleagues from all over the world on a daily basis. Thanks to small core teams, close collaboration with the relevant partner and a corporate philosophy that facilitates flat hierarchies, younger colleagues also get the chance to have client contact at an early stage and take on responsibility. Being able to tackle everyday work with enjoyment and commitment owes a lot to the working environment and the cooperation among colleagues – not just in your core team, but throughout the entire network. Martin Haller – Counsel, Real Estate

I work in DLA Piper's Real Estate Group and deal with all legal topics relating to real estate. Our main task is handling real estate transactions and project developments. There are around 500 lawyers working in this area at DLA Piper on a global basis; this means that DLA Piper's Real Estate team is the largest in the world. International clients, large-scale transactions and the challenge of tackling difficult tasks as a team – this is what makes the work at DLA Piper exciting and unique.
